Eleanor & Park

"Eleanor was right: She never looked nice. She looked like art, and art wasn't supposed to look nice; it was supposed to make you feel something" - Park Sheridan | Rainbow Rowell

*Thorough Thursday

I have a tiny problem with YA, slut shaming in young adult literature is something that needs to, like, stop. Now. Slut shaming is the act of degrading another women ( Usually by calling them a slut, thus the name.) for expressing her sexuality.

            Think about it. . .

Promiscuity in YA is looked down upon, virginity is one of the most generic traits all of the main characters have. And I know it shouldn't be that big of a deal, but to me it is, because young, impressionable minds read these books, and get it in their heads that in order to be accepted, they have to be a virgin, and therefore, any other girl that is not a virgin is no longer accepted.

And also, the majority of love interests, the male counterparts, are usually viewed as experienced, and the women are most likely the equivalent to a frolicking lamb.

Anyway, just think about it, please?

It's really bothering, because the reality is that a woman's value lies with in these superficial things, the worst thing a girl could be is a dirty, fat, undesirable whore. And the best thing a girl can be is an item belonging to a man.

All this said, I still love you YA.

           Just a little disappointed.
