Matched Movie?

            Matched | Ally Condie

Well, Well, Well. What do we have here? Matched, the first book in a dystopian trilogy (Surprise, surprise.) Is having it's own movie adaption. (What else is new?) And here I am, shaking with anger.

Problems with this book, and GO!

  1.      This book is BORING. Nothing happens, and though the concept is nothing new, forbidden love, controlling society, and rebelling teens, but though this has that dystopian flow vibe, this has nothing on the hunger games, Divergent, and Enders game, this book is filled with nothing, nothing, and oh-wait, nope, nothing. I hate that quality in a book, and though there are plenty of action free books that can capture the attention of readers everywhere, this book is filled with white noise and a weak love triangle, and have I mentioned NOTHING?
  2. As stated up above, the love triangle is weak, I could tell the second both to-be-love-interests were introduced,  She would go for the cliche outcast. OVERPLAYED. and though the falling for my best friend bit is as equally overplayed, and the book would still be, in my opinion, god awful, cliche, and still a weak love triangle, but don't get me wrong, my problem is not with the cliche, I like a good, well written cliche every once in a while. My problem lies with in the characters, the character development is non existent, their relationship base is bland, and I found myself skimming through half of the book, waiting for something along the lines of "Lol, I'm just trolling." Never did come.
  3. The plot follows the basic pattern almost all dystopians in YA follows, an overbearing government, an oppressed mass, and a fiery teen willing to kick some major ass. To be honest, I love YA dystopians, and love triangles. and the idea of  'Fighting the Man' and all that HURRAH, but as long as it's executed properly. And this didn't. The creativity of the book was somewhat there, just not enough to support the book.

In all reality, this book, in my opinion, does not deserve a movie, there are greater books out there, and they deserve something other than paper print. I did not enjoy this book, so this might be a lil' biased. I was shocked when I found out, so. . .

         Rating : 2.5 out of 5 stars

*Note, the writing may not be capturing, and the characters may be two dimensional,  but there were beautiful moments that I have no right to undermine. I am not dissing Ally Condie, she has talent, but I believe this book could have been way, way, WAY better. I guess it's all the hype, and how the book just didn't meet my expectations.

TOOTS, my Book Brethren.
